Does every Nissan from the USA get zero duty?

No. The zero rate covers cars finally assembled in the States, and Nissan is built in several countries at once. Two cars of the same model can carry different rates, so the answer only comes from the plant country read off the VIN.

How do you know where my Nissan was assembled?

From the production data tied to the VIN, which carries the country and city of the plant. You type in the number, we read the plant and compare it with the condition for the preference. That beats the first character of the VIN, which points only to the manufacturer's country.

What if the Nissan was assembled in Mexico?

Then the car enters the EU at the standard 10% rather than 0%. Where you bought it makes no difference: a car won at a sale in the States but assembled in Mexico or Canada fails the origin condition and clears like any other import.

When did zero duty start applying?

The preference has run since 2026-07-01 under the EU–US Agreement on Reciprocal Trade. It covers passenger cars finally assembled in the United States; cars from plants in other countries continue to clear at 10%. Checking origin by VIN remains the necessary step before you count on a rate.

Does zero duty change the amount of VAT?

Indirectly, yes. VAT at 23% is charged on customs value with duty added, so 0% instead of 10% also lowers the tax base. Excise follows engine size and comes to 3.1% or 18.6%, and zero duty does not touch it.

Nissan off American assembly lines

There is no single rate for the Nissan badge. Duty follows the plant that built the individual car: an American line means 0%, a line outside the States means 10%.
