Required Documents for Registering a Car from the USA in Poland

Registering an imported car from the USA is the final step in the process and requires submitting a full set of documents to the vehicle registration office. Due to the car's foreign origin, the list of required documents is longer than for cars purchased in Poland. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Vehicle registration application – available at the office or for download online.
  • Original license plates (if the car had them) or a statement confirming their absence.
  • Certificate of Title – the U.S. ownership document, translated by a sworn translator.
  • Invoice – the purchase invoice, also translated into Polish by a sworn translator.
  • Document confirming vehicle acquisition – if the car was purchased through an importing company.
  • Customs documentation – if the car arrived through ports in the Netherlands or Germany, a sworn translation from Dutch or German.
  • Proof of payment for import duties – customs, VAT, excise tax.
  • Certificate of passing technical inspections – both periodic and post-accident (if the vehicle was damaged).
  • Proof of registration fee payment – fee for plates, registration document, legalization marks, etc.
  • For classic vehicles – expert opinion and certificate from the provincial heritage conservation officer.
  • For vehicles imported before January 1, 2016, and not registered – documents confirming recycling fee payment.
