Where the Ram 1500 is assembled
Zero duty is a property of one car, not of the Ram 1500 as such. An American line means 0% duty and a lower 23% VAT base; a line outside the States means 10%. Manufacturers run parallel production on several continents, so two cars from one model year can clear differently.
Where is the Ram 1500 assembled?
The split shows in the data: 81,179 1500 cars reached us with an American assembly plant, the rest came from plants in other countries. The first group qualifies for 0% duty, the second for 10%. The counts cover every car recorded in our database, not the current offer.
| Plant | Country | VIN prefix | Cars in our database | Duty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Warren | United States | 1C4, 1C6, 1D7 | 53,084 | 0% duty |
| Sterling Heights | United States | 1C6, 2C6 | 28,094 | 0% duty |
| Saltillo | Mexico | 3C6, 3D7 | 8,809 | 10% |
| Dusseldorf | Germany | 1C6 | 2 | 10% |
| Newark | United States | 1C6 | 1 | 0% duty |
How do you check a specific car?
How much will you save?
The zero rate works in two places at once: 10% of duty disappears and the base for 23% VAT falls with it. That is why the difference across the whole bill on a US-assembled 1500 is larger than duty alone. The result follows customs value, so put yours into the calculator.
Work out the import costWhat the import cost is made of
The cost of importing a Ram 1500 splits into rates you know in advance and a customs value you do not. Fixed: duty at 0% or 10%, excise at 3.1% or 18.6% by engine size, VAT at 23%. Variable: the purchase price, transport and port charges.
| Component | Rate |
|---|---|
| Duty — car assembled in the USA | 0% |
| Duty — everything else | 10% |
| Excise | 3.1% up to 2.0 l, 18.6% above 3.5 l |
| VAT | 23% |
Rates, not amounts — the calculator works the sum out on current data.
Zero-duty paperwork — our job
Zero-duty paperwork is our half of the job. We read the assembly plant from production data, prepare the customs declaration and deal with the agency on your behalf. You pick a 1500 and bid — we run the procedure.
What to watch for when buying at auction
An auction description talks about damage, not about origin, and the other way round. A 1500 with a wrecked front can be assembled in the USA and come in at 0%, while an untouched car from the same sale comes from Mexico and pays 10%. Check both separately.
| Damage | Cars in our database |
|---|---|
| Front end | 36,116 |
| Side | 12,072 |
| Rear end | 9,527 |
From the USA or from Europe?
Europe hands you a car ready to register; the States hand you a wider choice of versions and of damaged cars. On a 1500 origin joins the list: a car assembled in the USA clears at 0%, one from outside the preference at 10%. That is the first thing to check when you compare offers.
