Chevrolet C20 from the St. Louis plant and 0% duty
EU–US Agreement on Reciprocal Trade has applied since 2026-07-01 and cuts duty to 0% for cars finally assembled in the States. The Chevrolet C20 meets that condition only in the cars genuinely built at an American plant; the rest clear at 10%. Verification runs on the VIN, not on the version name.
Where is the Chevrolet C20 assembled?
C20 cars off American lines carry the VIN prefixes 1GB, 1GC in our database. A prefix shows the manufacturer and the country, but the 0% rate is decided by the final assembly plant read for the specific number. The table shows how many cars from each plant have passed through us.
| Plant | Country | VIN prefix | Cars in our database | Duty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oshawa Truck | Canada | 2GC | 7 | 10% |
| St. Louis | United States | 1GB, 1GC | 6 | 0% duty |
| Janesville | United States | 1GC | 5 | 0% duty |
| Flint | United States | 1GC | 2 | 0% duty |
How do you check a specific car?
How much will you save?
The saving is a percentage, so it grows with the value of the car. A Chevrolet C20 from an American plant comes in at 0% instead of 10%, and lower duty shrinks the 23% VAT base. Excise stays: 3.1% on smaller engines, 18.6% on larger ones. The calculator does the rest.
Work out the import costWhat the import cost is made of
Three tax lines and one variable. Duty follows the assembly country of your C20: 0% for an American line, 10% for any other. Excise goes by engine size — 3.1% or 18.6%. VAT at 23% is worked out last, on customs value with duty and excise added.
| Component | Rate |
|---|---|
| Duty — car assembled in the USA | 0% |
| Duty — everything else | 10% |
| Excise | 3.1% up to 2.0 l, 18.6% above 3.5 l |
| VAT | 23% |
Rates, not amounts — the calculator works the sum out on current data.
Zero-duty paperwork — our job
We handle customs from the auction to the registration desk. A C20 with an American plant is declared under the preference in force since 2026-07-01, the rest at the standard 10% duty. Which documents are needed follows from the car's data, not from the seller's description.
What to watch for when buying at auction
The most common damage on a C20 in our database is features.lots.characteristics.damage_type.front_end, so start the photos and the report there. Repairing that area can eat the whole advantage of 0% instead of 10%, which is why you count it together with duty rather than separately.
| Damage | Cars in our database |
|---|---|
| Front end | 3 |
| Normal wear | 3 |
| Rear end | 2 |
From the USA or from Europe?
The difference comes down to what you add and what you get back. Buying a C20 in Europe, you skip the ocean crossing and the clearance; buying in the States you add both, but on a car from an American line duty is 0% instead of 10%. Your choice depends on how much paperwork and repair you take on.
