Chevrolet K20 from the Janesville plant and 0% duty
EU–US Agreement on Reciprocal Trade has applied since 2026-07-01 and cuts duty to 0% for cars finally assembled in the States. The Chevrolet K20 meets that condition only in the cars genuinely built at an American plant; the rest clear at 10%. Verification runs on the VIN, not on the version name.
Where is the Chevrolet K20 assembled?
The Chevrolet K20 comes out of plants that do not always sit in the same country, and those plants set the rate. A car from an American line enters the EU at 0%, a car from a plant elsewhere at 10%. Every row here is built from real cars in our database, not from a manufacturer's plan.
| Plant | Country | VIN prefix | Cars in our database | Duty |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oshawa Truck | Canada | 2GC | 7 | 10% |
| Janesville | United States | 1GC | 4 | 0% duty |
| St. Louis | United States | 1GC | 1 | 0% duty |
How do you check a specific car?
How much will you save?
The gap is 10% of customs value, plus a side effect: 23% VAT is charged on the value with duty added, so a zero rate also lowers the tax base. On a K20 assembled outside the USA neither effect fires. Work the result out in the calculator — the rates are fixed, the customs value is not.
Work out the import costWhat the import cost is made of
Three tax lines and one variable. Duty follows the assembly country of your K20: 0% for an American line, 10% for any other. Excise goes by engine size — 3.1% or 18.6%. VAT at 23% is worked out last, on customs value with duty and excise added.
| Component | Rate |
|---|---|
| Duty — car assembled in the USA | 0% |
| Duty — everything else | 10% |
| Excise | 3.1% up to 2.0 l, 18.6% above 3.5 l |
| VAT | 23% |
Rates, not amounts — the calculator works the sum out on current data.
Zero-duty paperwork — our job
You put nothing together yourself. We check the origin of the car by VIN, prepare the papers and run the clearance; if the production data points to assembly outside the USA, we declare it at 10% so the bill does not change when you come to collect.
What to watch for when buying at auction
Risk on a Chevrolet K20 from auction sits in three places: the extent of the damage, the completeness of the paperwork and the history of earlier repairs. None of them touches the duty rate, which follows the assembly country alone, but all three decide what getting the car roadworthy really costs.
| Damage | Cars in our database |
|---|---|
| Burn | 2 |
| Normal wear | 1 |
| Rear end | 1 |
From the USA or from Europe?
The key difference is procedural rather than a matter of badge. A car from the European market goes through no import, a car from the States does — and then the assembly country counts: an American line means 0%, any other 10%, with excise and 23% VAT on top. For a K20, the check starts at the VIN.
